Sarah Elizabeth Briley

Platform: You Are Beautiful

Sarah Elizabeth Briley, Mrs. Southwest Michigan 2016, grew up in Hartford, Michigan surrounded by loving and nurturing parents and grandparents. She has two brothers and two sisters.

She met her husband Ken two weeks after turning 18, while she was attending the annual Hartford Strawberry Festival. They were engaged in 2001 and were married in 2002. They welcomed their first child, a daughter, Kendra, in 2004. Their son, Kaleb, was born in 2008.

Sarah has been an active member of the Hartford community since prior to graduating high school. She began coaching Rocket Cheerleading in 2004. She has also been active in the local Council of Recreation and began coaching summer ball in 2008.

In addition, she has participated in the Miss Hartford Pageant, the League of Miracles, the I Am a Firework Pageant, and the Hartford Strawberry Festival. She also assisted with the public school musicals and she coached high school cheerleading for four years.

Moreover, she has also enjoyed helping her daughter participate in many local and state pageants. Sarah is a Program Assistant at Bert Goens Learning Center and she is pursuing her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and Special Education.

Spending time with girls and young women, Sarah has witnessed first-hand the ramifications of a poor body image upon the self-esteem of women and girls of all ages. She has even been subject to its effects herself.

As a result, she has made it her aim to make each girl and every young woman she meets feel good about themselves just as they are. Partnering with the National Eating Disorder Association, she hopes to show them that living a healthy lifestyle is the wisest choice they can make to develop a positive self-image.
