2018 Southwest Michigan's Princess

Makenna Kate O’Donoghue

Platform: Helping Homeless Animals

Makenna is very excited to be representing Southwest Michigan’s Scholarship as their Princess for 2018. She feels honored to be part of a program that focuses on youth and helps gets them involved in community events and activities in the greater Southwest Michigan area. Makenna is very proud to have won and looks forward to representing the program throughout the next twelve months.

Makenna is nine years old and she lives in St. Joseph with her parents, Mark and Kim O’Donoghue, and her sister Kennedy, who is three years old. She attends EP Clarke Elementary School in St. Joseph, Michigan and is in the third grade.

Makenna is a very busy kid and has many interests! She participates in many extracurricular activities, academic programs, and sports. Makenna is a dancer at Citadel Dance and Music and is a gymnast at Power in Motion. She has a few recitals every year for both dance and gymnastics and loves being on stage, performing for the audience! Makenna is also a rocket football cheerleader for the St. Joe Bears and plays on a soccer team through AYSO. In addition, Makenna is a member of Robo Joes, the robotics team at St. Joseph schools. Makenna also participates in Girls on the Run, and just completed her first 5k! In addition, Makenna has participated in the Clover Leaf Spelling Bee and performs in her school’s talent show every year.

Some of Makenna’s hobbies include snow skiing, boating, swimming, drawing and art projects, and playing outside with the neighborhood kids. Makenna loves to travel and visit new places. Her favorite place to go is North Carolina, where she has family. Her most memorable vacation was to Sea World in San Diego, California where she was selected out of the crowd to participate in the dolphin show. The soaking she got from the dolphin was definitely worth the experience!

Makenna has dreams of going to college to become a Marine Biologist and a part-time Acrobat. She hasn’t decided where she would like to go to college yet but knows it will have to be somewhere on the ocean and she’s just fine with that!

Makenna loves animals. She has two dogs and fish that lives in an outdoor landscape pond. She is eager to begin her platform of helping homeless animals. She is excited to see how much money she can raise and how many supplies she can collect for the animals throughout the year.
