Princess 2018 Newsletter

Dear Southwest Friends and Family,

It’s hard to believe that 2018 is over, the year went so fast!  It was such a great year for me.  I am so grateful for all of the experiences I had.

In October we began our goodwill tour of visiting local nursing homes.  I’ve really enjoyed the tour and have gotten to know so many wonderful people.   It makes me so happy to see the smiles on their faces when we arrive.  Our Christmas goodwill tour was also a lot of fun.  I made Christmas hat ornaments for all of the residents.  I love singing and had so much fun singing the Christmas songs with the residents.

I also attended the Halloween event at the Blue Roof Church in October.   It was a lot of fun.   The little kids are so cute in their costumes.  At the end of the event my mom surprised me by coming to the event with two of my best friends!

I participated in two events to kick off the holiday season in November.  These events were the Luminary Festival and Light Up the Bluff.   We were fortunate that the weather for the Luminary Festival was somewhat mild.   The event was busy and it was fun talking to everyone who came to the event.  Light Up the Bluff was so fun.   We got to sing Christmas songs while we waited for the tree lighting ceremony. Even though it was a very cold night we all had a lot of fun.   Lots of little girls wanted to take their pictures with us!  I also attended the Southwest giveback night at Silver Beach Pizza in mid- November.  It was nice seeing so many people come out to support our wonderful organization and of course the pizza was delicious.

December was all about Christmas and Santa and helping others!   I was in the Paw Paw Christmas parade.   It was a nice little parade.   Although it felt more like fall because it was a rainy day instead of snowing, once I saw Santa it felt like Christmas and everyone got excited!  Speaking of Santa, I spent several hours with him at Snapshots with Santa at Martins Supermarkets.  Lots of little kids brought their lists and got their pictures taken with him.    A couple of the real little kids cried when they sat on his lap and that reminded me of myself when I was little.   In December I collected items at Martins Supermarket for those in need.   We talked to all of the shoppers about what we were doing and many of them were generous enough to purchase items.   At the end of the event, I bought some of the items that people weren’t purchasing for those in need.  It feels so good to give back.

As we look into the new year, I’m looking forward to continuing my rein as Southwest Michigan’s Princess.  In addition to all of the events we have planned, we will also be gearing up to prepare for the 2019 pageant where sadly I will have to pass my crown onto the next lovely girl who will represent our community.

Happy New Year, I wish all of you happiness and health in the new year!
