About Whitney...
Whitney Rehn Munger, Miss Southwest Michigan 2010, defines herself as a determined woman who is committed to being a positive role model for all children and young adults. If you were to ask Whitney to describe her personality and passions, her voice would resonate with enthusiasm and pride for her family and her friends. Before long, you would also hear her discuss the importance of leadership training and confidence building in children. She is especially passionate about the special needs of individuals with physical disabilities or mental impairment.
A 2005 graduate of Coloma High School, Whitney presently attends Western Michigan University where she is a senior who will graduate in May, 2010. She is the daughter of Roy Munger and the late Mary Munger-Weybright. She has one younger brother, Jacob.
Whitney has a compelling interest in Special Olympics. Her own personal life has been impacted by a family member with Down Syndrome. This personal experience has inspired her to always demonstrate leadership skill, confidence, and self-esteem in her interaction with all people, despite the limitations physical disability or mental impairment may place upon some of them. Consequently, she has become a passionate advocate for all families who have loved ones with special needs.
After receiving her BA degree in Organizational Communication, Whitney will seek employment in marketing, public relations and business. She has been an active volunteer within her community and at WMU holding leadership positions with Special Olympics, Miracle League, Relay for Life and Junior Achievement.
As Miss Southwest Michigan 2010, Whitney will promote her platform by encouraging participation in Special Olympics and by increasing community awareness of the values and mission of Special Olympics. Her goal is to reach out to all individuals to promote the need for leadership, to build confidence and to encourage community involvement.
Whitney believes the Southwest Michigan Scholarship Program presents her with the best opportunity to connect with the public where she can inspire and motivate others to reach out to members of their own community in an effort to build a healthier, happier environment for all people to thrive. During her year of service, Whitney Munger plans to spend her passion and determination inspiring and motivating her fellow citizens to get involved in order to make a difference in the quality of life in their communities.
