Mrs 2019 Newsletter

Hello Southwest Michigan Family!

My name is Christin Nichole Adams, and I am proud to say that I am your new Mrs. Southwest Michigan 2019. A little bit about myself, I have the most supportive husband, Joe Adams. We have been married for 12 years. Together, we are the parents to two beautiful children our 6 year-old-son, Clayton and 2-year-old daughter, Elise.

When I am not with my family I am working in the community as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Advance Drug and Alcohol Counselor. I graduated with my Master’s in Social Work from Western Michigan University in 2011. Go Broncos! Part of being a social worker in the community entails working with several different entities. I am employed with Spectrum Health Lakeland and Centered On Wellness. I also am an adjunct professor for Lake Michigan College-Sociology and Western Michigan University-Social Work. For enjoyment I participate in dance classes in our community or small dance projects.

I am honored to have another opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives in our community, promoting my platform of, Addiction. I will devote my year of service to changing the way addiction is viewed in our community and to empower those in recovery who are fighting this disease, and to those families who are affected by this disease. I hope to give a voice to the people to speak out about their journey and encourage others to join them in recovery. This subject is very close to my heart, since 2006, I have worked with families and children and have witnessed first hand the destruction this disease brings to all individuals regardless of their socioeconomic status, race, religion. This disease does not discriminate and damaging our community daily. I have also had the privilege to witness children and parents reuniting and lives being transformed through recovery. I know there is hope and together as a community we can help prevent another life being claimed by this disease.

I am currently working on hosting a 5K walk/run with the help of the Southwest Michigan Racers and Riverwood. The event is called Run for Hope and Recovery and will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2019. The event will be a fundraiser for the Suicide Coalition and the COPE Network. Through this event we will be acknowledging the survivors and victims affected by the disease of addiction. This will be a community wide event and we will need volunteers, sponsors and participants. I hope to see each and everyone of you take part in this event to help prevent the spread of this disease in our community! If you are interested in participating feel free to reach out to me or Southwest Michigan Racers to participate!

I am ecstatic for the journey this year of promoting this platform in our community! I am eager to interact with each and every community member. I would like to say thank-you to everyone who has made this opportunity possible for me and I will make sure I work hard to promote the Southwest Michigan Scholarship Program with class, grace and honesty!

With Love,

Christin Nichole Adams
